Message
From The President |
|
 |
 |
There are times in our lives where it
seems that every priority we have
converges with impending things the HAVE
to get done RIGHT NOW.
I'm at one of those convergence points.
I'm finally writing my book on
leadership (and as I write this, I am
having one of those 'Oh shoot! I was
supposed to..." moments. Note to self...
Anyway, there's the book, classes I've
committed to teach for two universities,
the live workshop I'm putting on...the
list goes on. |
|
|
 |
|
I've outsourced, delegated, focused, abandoned,
rescheduled, asked for help and still...I'm
feeling a bit
overwhelmed!
I was actually suffering from a bit of writer's
block (hence the 4/17 date of this 4/18
newsletter). Go figure. So last
night before turning in, I said "God, I'm
stumped here. I need some help. So
tonight while I'm sleeping, your job is to open
my brain up and pour in some ideas about what to
write about, OK?"
And as always when I awoke, there they were!
So I hope you enjoy this inspired edition of
Dream Leader Direct. It comes to you "direct
from the source". |

I have experienced moments of insight and
clarity like I've just described before.
I'm sure you have too.
One that came to mind happened over 30 years
ago in one of my first jobs. I was an
assembler language programmer writing a
segment of the Sears catalog ordering system
and I had been stumped about how to handle a
particular situation. I had tried a
number of things and wracked my brain
without success. Since it was 30 years
ago, it was in the dark ages of programming
and we could only submit one or two runs of
a program a day, so this particular 'stump'
was taking a long time to overcome.
One night I had a dream about this program
(yikes), but in the dream, I saw myself
writing code and inserting what is known as
a switch. Now I know most of you
aren't programmers and don't know and don't
care what a switch is, but the point is the
solution came to me in a dream. It was
so obviously the solution, it woke me up. I
wrote down "switch", went back to sleep and
when I got to work, inserted a switch and
"Voila!" Problem solved - like magic.

|
Our brains and our sources of
inspiration are magnificent - when we
get out of the way. I believe I
first learned about the power of our
minds when reading my 1960, $1.95
edition of Napoleon Hill's Think and
Grow Rich.
I pulled my very worn copy off the
bookshelf and glanced through it again.
That book is chock full of amazing
ideas!
There was even a note I had inserted to
"Reread Chapter 4 - Autosuggestion".
The subtitle is 'The Medium for
Influencing the Subconscious Mind'.
He refers to the Six Ways to turn Desire
into Gold (which are actually in Chapter
2 for those of your who are going to go
back and read this.) |
 |
Here they are:
1. Fix in your mind the exact
amount of money (or whatever) you want (like
something for your ezine)
2. Determine exactly what you are ready to
give in return for the thing you desire.
3. Establish a definite date when you plan to
possess the thing you desire
4. Create a definite plan for carrying out your
desire and begin at once.
5. Write out a clear statement of those 4
things (what you desire, what you'll give, when
you'll possess it and what your plan is.
6. Read your written statement aloud,
twice daily, once just before retiring at night
and once after arising. As you read, see,
feel and believe yourself already in possession
of the money (or thing). |
| |
|
Sounds pretty simple doesn't it? You might even
think it's too simple. But what have you
got to lose? And what if it actually works
for you? How cool would THAT be?
So that's your 'homework'.
Execute those six steps. When great things
start to happen, send me an
email and let me know. |

Taking Your Work Home - Or Keeping It
in Its Place |
|
|
(c)
2007 Gina Gardiner Reprinted with permission
Working hard and providing a great service,
whilst you are at work, is what we expect to do.
Many of us find that the working day is extended
well into our personal time. There are bound to
be times when a particular deadline needs to be
met but all too often taking work home
physically and mentally with us becomes the
norm. It erodes the quality time spent with the
family and has the potential to be destructive
of family relationships and quality rest and
recuperation. It becomes even more of an issue
when it is the thinking about work and worrying
about things takes up time and energy getting in
the way of sleep and peace of mind.
Before you can identify the best way to deal
with the problem it is vital to be clear what is
actually at the root cause of the problem.
You need to define what this means for you.
Is it being unable to let go of work, thinking
when you leave the work place? Are you taking on
the problems of others? Do you keep going over
actions and decisions you have made during the
working day? I wish I’d said ------ If only I’d
done ------. Are you taking actual work home to
do because you do not have time to do it at
work? Is the problem caused because you are
avoiding dealing with a difficult member of
staff? Are you unable to delegate effectively?
Do you find it hard to say “no” or you are
worried about upsetting the boss? Are you
working for an organization which has
unrealistic expectations or are you modelling
behaviours which are unhelpful to your achieving
a good work life balance.
You need to ask yourself why is this?
