 Message From The President
OK, it's sizzling here in the desert now.

But even with the brush fire that's been burning a few miles from my house and I'm still HAPPY I don't have to deal with the icy, blizzard-y snow of the Midwest winters.

The photo above is of me receiving the President's Choice Award from Choo Tay, Media88, Immediate Past President of NAWBO Phoenix and Katie Raml, Emmy award-winning journalist and anchor of ABC15.  I've recently been voted in as President-Elect for the Phoenix chapter, an honor I am deeply humbled by and, at the same time, wildly excited about.

FEATURE ARTICLE – Are You as Independent as You Thought You'd Be?

Or is your life largely determined by outside forces?

Are you overwhelmed by too many things not of your choosing?

I've had several conversations lately with entrepreneurs and corporate professionals about the challenges of staying true to their dreams or dealing with the circumstances and apparent demands placed on them by outside situations and people.

There are fears buried inside of us that keep us playing small, being busy but not making significant strides toward that which matters most to us.

In truth, we procrastinate, hold back and then blame (even subtly) other people for why we haven't accomplished all that we had hoped. Instead, like our forefathers, I suggest we 'fight for our rights'.

If you find yourself making excuses for why your dreams have not yet happened, try this:

1.  Write down your dream in a vividly descriptive narrative.  Express what you would see, feel and hear once that dream is realized.

2. Write down WHY that dream is important to you.  Get back in touch with what it would allow you to do.

3.  Make a list of requests you could make of the people around you.  You might want them to start or stop doing something in particular. As my friend and colleague, Rayona Sharpnack, is fond of saying, "We must give up the right to be resentful about anything for which we have not made a request".

4.  Identify one small step you can take toward making your dream a reality. We're often overwhelmed by the enormity of our dreams and keep our dreams on a shelf.

5. Take that step within the next 3 days!  Quit waiting for everything to line up, for someone to give you permission.  ACT NOW!  GET STARTED!  STOP WAITING!

6.  Send me an email and let me know what happened when you got off your butt:-)

 PIP Tip

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe."

SYNDICATED ARTICLE - 4 Powerful Ways To Fire Up Your Motivation

by: Don Weyant

At times we all find it so difficult to go on when everything seems to fail, isn't it? Are there times in your life when you really want to call it "quits" because you just can't see any good results from all the hard work you've done?

So what are we to do at times like these? How do we cope?

Never ever think of giving up. Winners never quit and quitters never win as the old saying goes. Take all negative words out of your mental dictionary and be aware of what you are saying at all times, focus on the solutions with utmost conviction and patience.

The battle is never lost until you've abandon your vision.

But what if you're really exhausted physically, mentally, and most of all emotionally? Here are some sources of motivation to prompt and assist you in reaching the peak of accomplishment.

1) The Overwhelming Feeling of Attaining your Desired End

How would you feel after accomplishing your mission? Of course you will feel ecstatic. You might be shedding tears of joy. Let this tremendous feeling sink in and encourage you to persist despite all odds.
