Message
From The President |
|
 |
 |
A few weeks ago, I started researching
my adoptive father’s military status.
He had served in WWII in France and
passed away the day the astronauts
landed on the moon, July 22, 1969. I was
a freshman in college.
As part of my research, I went rummaging
through one of our very old family
albums and found this photograph of him
and my adoptive mother in the early
1940s.
It’s been sitting on my bookcase for
over two weeks and I look at it every
day. |
|
|
 |
|
This evening however, I was particularly struck
by the joy and pride emanating from my mother’s
smile. It took me back so much, I paused and
asked myself, “Why after two weeks does her face
look so different? And "Why am I seeing this
photo in such a new light?” Her face
was almost leaping off the page. She
looked almost alive.
Then it dawned on me. Today would have been my
father’s birthday! He would have been 98!
Now I’ve been thinking off and on all month that
his birthday was the 26th but I
didn’t wake up this morning thinking about it.
When I first sat down to write after a pretty
hectic day, my mind was completely blank. I had
no clue what I would be writing about! I was
actually a little frustrated.
Then I saw the picture and something profound hit me.
Fifteen years or so after this photograph was taken and he
was well back into civilian life, my father went into
business for himself. He first owned the corner
drug store across the street from my elementary
school. (That made me
very
popular with my classmates:-). Later on, he
purchased a coin operated laundromat and dry
cleaning establishment.
While my relationship with my father wasn't as
close as it was with my mother, I always admired
hi, his strength and his practical
down-to-earth approach. He did very well
supporting our family with those businesses and
it is to him that I attribute my entrepreneurial
spirit.
So join me in wishing Andrew Earl Love a very
happy 98th birthday!
I can literally feel Lois
and Andrew smiling down on their baby girl. |

FEATURE
ARTICLE – WHAT MARK WILL YOU
LEAVE? |
|
 |
One of my most frequently requested speeches
is “Leadership that Transforms People and
Delivers Profits”. Some of you have heard
me deliver it.
I always start out with the comment, “Some
people leave an indelible mark on your
heart.” I then go on to describe one of my
strongest mentors from early in my career.
There are tons of articles and books on
leadership and I don’t claim to have the
most innovative ideas about how great
leaders behave. I do, however, believe that
leaders aren’t necessarily born, but can
also be ‘made’.
|
|
The things that I believe really
distinguish great leaders are:
o Having
a commitment to a better future
o Demonstrating
an ability to communicate that future as
highly desirable and achievable
o
Being
able to connect deeply to what lies in
our hearts, yearning to be birthed and
expressed.
Great leaders also demonstrate caring in
a way that great managers may not. It’s
this caring that inspires and galvanizes
people. It ‘makes’ us reach beyond our
self-imposed limits and strive for goals
and dreams beyond our self-interests.
John Maxwell said, “People don’t care
how much you know until they know how
much you care”. |

 |
Think about it. How more likely are you to go
out of your way to do something for someone you
believe cares for you and has gone to bat for
you than someone who acts like you owe it to
them? |
| |
|
This is one of the areas I work on with
executives who are brilliant, yet disconnected
from their staff. People will work for someone
like that but they won’t joyfully
jump through hoops for them.
Now honestly, that caring gene is slightly
recessive in my own DNA, but I’ve worked on it
over the years, and built it up to where people
actually notice it now! And that makes us all
happy!
I have a vision – that people express their
gifts in pursuit of their highest personal
destiny. The work I do every day is centered
around bringing out the best in people and
helping the leaders in the organizations honor
the gifts of their staff as they pursue their
business goals.
You may have heard me say that before.
That’s my mark. That’s what wakes me up and
guides me throughout the day. It's what drives
the conversations I have with my clients,
colleagues, prospects even strangers. Almost
anyone within ears' reach if they're open.
So I ask again…
What mark will you leave? |

ARTICLE -
3 Simple And Low Cost
Marketing Ideas To Create Visibility |
|
|
(c)
2007 Tracey Lawton Reprinted with permission
Marketing your business is one of the biggest
challenges for any solopreneur – it’s a task we all
find quite daunting, and are simply overwhelmed by
all the information that’s available. Below I have
put together some information on 3 simple and low
cost marketing ideas, which you can easily implement
right away to create more visibility for your online
business and web site. They all work well for me!
To help you decide which is the best strategy (or
strategies) for you, I have listed the pros and cons
of each one.
1. Create a Blog
Pros
You can really show off your expertise by posting on
a regular basis.
Blog posts don’t need to be very long – approx.
200-350 words.
If you have some important information to share, you
can instantly create a post – no waiting for your
next newsletter to make your announcement!
If you use a blogging platform such as WordPress,
this is hosted on your website. Each time you post
to your blog you are creating fresh content for your
website, which the search engines love!
Cons
You need to post regularly - at least once a week –
in order for this to be an effective marketing
strategy.
You need to feel confident that you will be able to
write fresh content regularly.
It can be difficult to build a direct relationship
with your reader.
2. Publish an Ezine
Pros
Unlike a blog, readers sign up to receive your
newsletter so you already have a connection with
them.
You can build a relationship with your newsletter
reader and encourage one-on-one communication.
You can go into more depth in your newsletter
article than you can with your blog posts.
Your clients/target audience can get to know you
through your newsletter.
Cons
You have to make a commitment to publish on a
regular basis, otherwise your subscribers will see
you as unreliable, and may even forget about you!
There is more work involved in putting together a
newsletter than writing a simple blog post.
You will need to subscribe to one of the ezine
distribution services – I strongly recommend you do
this and not send your ezine via your email client!
3. Article Marketing
Pros
If you are already blogging or publishing a
newsletter, you have your articles written.
It is highly likely that once you submit your
article to one of the article submission sites, it
will be picked up and published on other article
submission sites.
Regularly submitting your articles will elevate you
to ‘expert’ status within your field/niche.
Cons
You have to write the articles if you’re not
publishing a newsletter or posting to a blog.
It takes time to manually research suitable article
submission sites and submit articles.
In order for this strategy to be effective, you have
to submit your articles regularly – at least once a
month.
Conclusion: You can just pick one strategy to focus
on, or you can do all three! Whichever one you
choose make sure it’s the right one for you. The key
is to be consistent in your approach. If you decide
to go with a blog make sure you have the time and
motivation to add new posts regularly – at least
once a week. Don’t start a newsletter if you know
you won’t be able to keep to a regular publishing
schedule! And for article marketing to be effective
you need to submit articles on a regular basis.
